Established in 2020… Dayton Icehounds Youth Hockey is committed to providing fun, safe, and high-quality ice hockey programs for the young people of the Miami Valley.

Emphasizing an environment that is open to youths at all levels of interest, promoting ability, assisting all participants in reaching their athletic potential by teaching skills that enhance the performance and enjoyment of ice hockey, while also including the importance of hard work, goal setting, commitment, self-discipline, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Our Learn to Play hockey program gives kids the fundamentals of hockey with our Learn to Play Hockey lessons, available for boys and girls ages 4 – 10. Designed to develop a foundation of hockey skating skills and basic stick handling skills in a fun and exciting atmosphere.

Current & Upcoming Series Dates

  • Fall - Sept 19, 2021 - Nov 14, 2021
  • Winter - Nov 21, 2021 - Jan 30, 2022
  • Spring 2022 - Feb 27, 2022 - Apr 24, 2022

This new program has two options.

  1. An In-House program held entirely at South Metro Sports two times a week (Tuesday after 5:30pm and Sunday after 3:30pm). This will be a lower-cost, lower-commitment option than what is available in the area.
  2. All of the In-House program, plus a Travel Add-On which adds additional practices and home and away games against other programs in the Buckeye Travel Hockey League.

The Dayton Icehounds are excited to host USA Hockey Try Hockey for Free events, which gives kids ages 4 – 9 a chance to get on the ice with coaches and give hockey a try… FOR FREE! This event will be held in the Fall.

Penquite named 12U Travel Head Coach

The Dayton Icehounds is excited to announce Eric Penquite as our 12U Travel Coach. Eric has been involved in youth sports in the Dayton area since 2010, including hockey, baseball, and football.

Coach Penquite has coached with numerous organizations including the Dayton Stealth as an assistant coach for 5 years, Kettering Firebirds football as first assistant coach for 5 seasons, and the Kettering Little League for 9 years.

Coach Penquite coaches to instill the love of every sport and Eric’s coaching philosophy is hard work pays off. As for hockey, Eric grew up playing in the DBYHL. Hockey has always been a Penquite family passion. Eric’s desire is to teach every player the heart and integrity of the game. Hockey is a lifetime commitment and Coach Penquite is all in. “It’s truly an honor to be involved in our community’s youth programs across the board!”

Lause named High School Head Coach

The Dayton Icehounds are excited to announce Michael Lause as our JV/HS Head Coach! Coach Lause comes to the Icehounds organization with a wealth of ice hockey experience and accolades. Michael played for various youth organizations throughout the south suburban area of Chicago as well as playing High School hockey with the Kanakakee Irish, Lake County Kings of the Illiana High School Hockey League, and the Michiana High School Hockey league.

Michael has coached with numerous organizations at many different levels bringing passion, experience and credentials that will help further our players' development and build team unity. Using the USA Hockey American Development Model, Coach Lause will focus on skill development as well as long-term player development.

Michael attended Bowling Green State University and spent some time on the club (Now ACHA) team with the University.

Michael is a current Level 4 USA Hockey Coach, a Level 3 USA Hockey official and has many training credentials on coaching concepts within the sport of Ice Hockey and Soccer.

Perkins named 14U Travel Head Coach

The Dayton Icehounds are excited to announce Steven Perkins as our 14U Travel Head Coach. Steven brings a level of intensity, motivation, and inspiration that players and parents admire. Coach Perkins is currently Level 4 USA Hockey certified with nearly ten years of USA Hockey experience.

During those 10 years, Steven has coached at every age group and level with emphasis on core skills and individual growth. Steven’s primary focus is developing player’s skills and long-term athlete development as outlined by the USA Hockey American Development Model.

Coach Perkins’ passion for the game will build team confidence, work-ethic, self-esteem, and pride in their team.

Steven recently graduated from Miami University with a B.S. in Kinesiology and Health through the Sports Leadership and Management program.

Winter Learn to Play Wrap-Up

Our Winter Session of Learn to Play wrapped up with two fun Jamborees, one at home, one away.  Thanks again to all our adult and student coaches, and to the kids for making it a great session.  Spring Session starts February 28.
